1. How long does it take to finish the program?

  2. Answer: It depends upon the number of credits you need and how fast you can do it. It is self-paced. You pay by a block of instruction of eight weeks, which is for as many courses as you can finish within that time frame. If you don’t finish the requirements within eight weeks, then you pay for another eight weeks.

  3. How does the program work?

  4. Answer: You can study the modules online, but you have to be present at the high school to take proctored tests.

  5. How long before I get my transcript and diploma?

  6. Answer: After completing all course requirements (see FAQ No. 1), it takes about six weeks to process your transcript and diploma which you will receive in the mail.

  7. What are the hours?

  8. Answer: The high school is open from 7:30 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Friday. You can come any time you want as long as there are available computers. During peak enrollments, we require students to sign up for block schedules of two hours two times a week and free laboratory hours.

  9. Can I do it at home?

  10. Answer: Not totally. You can only study the modules and take self-tests and self-assessments at home, which are practice tests that do not count towards a final grade. You have to be physically present at the high school in Killeen to take proctored tests in order to get credits.

  11. Do I have to take the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS) tests?

  12. Answer: API High School is a private institution and does not require TAKS tests for graduation. We administer the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE) for Reading, Language, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Passing the TABE tests is a requirement for graduation. If you passed the TAKS tests (Grade 11 level) or any other state exit tests, then you don’t have to take the TABE tests. However, if you fail a portion of the TAKS or other state exit tests, you will only have to take an equivalent TABE test. If you don’t pass the entry TABE tests, then you will be required to take preparatory non-credit courses before taking the regular credit courses and then you take the exit TABE tests.
